The topic of the meeting was: “Criminal and Civil Procedure. The Art of Defense: From the First Consultation to the Courtroom.”

Purpose of the guest lecture: to familiarize students with the work of an attorney in civil and criminal proceedings.

Attorney Zh.K. Shurenova drew students’ attention to two key areas of judicial activity—criminal and civil procedure—explaining their differences, similarities, and the role of the attorney in each. She emphasized that an attorney’s participation in criminal proceedings is often a struggle for a person’s fate, honor, freedom, and sometimes even life. Speaking about an attorney’s role in civil proceedings, Shurenova highlighted that a lawyer is not just a representative, but also a mediator, negotiator, and architect of agreements that allow parties to avoid lengthy litigation.

The lecture was given special value by the fact that Zhanar Kenzhalievna supported her presentation with examples from her own legal practice, allowing students to move from theoretical knowledge to an understanding of real-world legal work.

In her conclusion, the attorney stressed that in both cases the mission of an attorney remains unchanged: to ensure compliance with the law, protect human rights, and achieve a fair resolution of disputes.

The meeting was held in a constructive and open dialogue, leaving all participants with positive impressions.
