THE ACADEMIC COUNCIL is established by the order of the Rector and is one of the forms of collegial governance of the University.
The activities of the ACADEMIC COUNCIL are based on openness and transparency in discussing issues within its competence.
The objectives of the ACADEMIC COUNCIL are:
- making decisions to create necessary conditions for students and the University’s teaching staff to successfully implement educational programs;
- ensuring financial support and strengthening the University’s material and technical base;
- promoting the further development of the University.
The competence of the ACADEMIC COUNCIL includes:
- approval of the University’s structure;
- amendments and additions to the University Charter;
- establishment, reorganization, and liquidation of the University’s academic and scientific units;
- defining the University’s development strategy;
- decision-making on all fundamental issues regarding the organization of educational, research, and economic activities of the University;
- hearing annual reports of the Rector, Vice-Rectors, and heads of structural units on forms and methods of conducting academic, research, educational, financial, administrative, informational, and international activities;
- review and recommendation for publication of textbooks, teaching aids, and instructional materials;
- making decisions on transferring students from paid tuition to educational grants and to external studies;
- approval of topics and academic supervisors-consultants for master’s thesis research;
- organizing control over the University’s financial and economic activities;
- approval and awarding of academic and honorary titles, named scholarships, and awards;
- reviewing proposals for nominating University employees and creative teams for government awards and honorary titles;
- considering other current issues of University activities that require collegial decision-making.
The composition of the ACADEMIC COUNCIL includes the Chair of the Council – the Rector, Vice-Rectors, department directors, heads of academic schools and structural units, representatives of the teaching staff, student and public organizations of the University, and employers.
The ACADEMIC COUNCIL organizes its work based on an approved annual work plan. Meetings of the ACADEMIC COUNCIL are held at least once a month in accordance with the approved academic year plan. If necessary, unscheduled meetings of the Academic Council are conducted.
